Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre

Designed by fjmt, the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre sets a new benchmark in sustainable public building design through the adaptive reuse, salvage, recycling and renovation of the existing Bankstown Town Hall.  Sustainable design principles and innovative high performance environmental systems informed all design decisions to create this integrated, flexible, state-of-the-art community hub. The modernised facilities and surrounding public space encourages visitors to exchange ideas and interact spontaneously. The Martela KOOP designed by Karim Rashid was selected to make a defining statement. The impact of 3 beautiful Koops being the ideal finishing touch to complete the designer's vision. Selectively positioned in close proximity to the children's zone and windows overlooking manicured gardens, they are commonly used as personal retreats and places of interaction.
