Specifications are always based on identifying the customer’s business goals, needs and nature of work. Studies and surveys are conducted to determine what types of facilities best meet the employees’ needs. Usage rates are measured to determine the present state and analyse future needs. This guarantees the perfect result.
User-oriented design takes account of changes caused by modern technology in working methods as well as the needs of various types of users. Well-designed facilities increase productivity and well-being at work while also serving as a leadership tool. This serves to ensure that the organisation has a work environment that supports its operations and is created and maintained responsibly.
To start with, we find out what requirements there are for the working environment. We analyse the business and investigate what the employees do throughout the day. Based on the analyses, we make suggestions on workplaces that support best each activity.
“It’s not just about expenses, even though they are very important. We have to think about employee comfort.”
Markku Pirskanen, Chief Financial Officer, Martela
“Investing in the working environment is a great way to hold on to good employees.”
Maarit Vuori, Interior Designer, Martela
Measured utilisation rates form the basis of the workspace plan for the work environment. Usage reports on desks, meeting rooms and other facilities should be analysed to understand how the facilities are actually used. These analyses help companies identify potential cost savings and design work environments based on their actual need for space. The utilisation rate measuring service and the related analyses and reports are always tailored to the customer’s needs.
Introduction to activity based concept
Moving over to an activity-based office will also change the way of working in an organisation. It is therefore important to familiarise the customer’s key persons and end users with the activity-based office at an early stage. Customers can make appointments to familiarise themselves with the activity-based concept at Martela’s premises where workshops on the topic will also be organised.
Before modifying a work environment, needs should be specified. In our user-oriented workspace planning, we specify the users, tasks and spatial needs of your organisation as well as the targets for the modification.
Key person interviews
We suggest that all the users of the workplace are invited to participate in an online work environment survey, and key persons representing the various activities of the organisation are interviewed. This also helps the change management.
At the end of the specification phase, an analysis of the results of the work environment survey and interviews will be created. The analysis will form the basis of the tentative workspace plan for the work environment in question. After spesification phase Space and interior design can be started.
