Me & MyCity – an experience not to be missed
10/12/2015 - 14:01

Last year I had an opportunity to participate in making a video of Martela’s participation in Me & MyCity. It was a great experience to see how a group of school children run a miniature society for a day.

Me & MyCity is a unique concept in entrepreneurship education in Europe. Me & MyCity is a study module on society, working life and entrepreneurship for 6th grade pupils in Finland. Me & MyCity learning environment contains business premises for at least 15 companies and public services. For one day, the visiting pupils work in a profession, earn a salary and act as consumers and members of their own society.

In the Me & MyCity premises there is Martela in which one pupil works as a general manager, one as solution sales person and one interior decorator to help other businesses in MyCity to create Inspiring Spaces for other companies working in the MyCity. Now Martela employees have also an opportunity to donate a part of their working day supporting Me & MyCity.

For a pupil the day at Me & MyCity is the highlight of the experience. However, there is extensive preparation work done. Me & MyCity organization has prepared a lot of study material that teachers use in the classroom work in order to prepare the pupils for the actual day in the Me & MyCity. Pupils apply for the jobs of their choosing and teachers select the best talent for different tasks.

Surely this is not an opportunity to miss for any 6th grader and Martela is proud of being a partner in building this unique concept in Finland since 2012.

You can learn more in our video from Me & MyCity.

The latest Me & MyCity villages have just been opened in Helsinki-Vantaa and Eastern Finland in October 2015. More information can be found in Me & My City home pages.
